Tipping in the UK
A tip is a percentage of the bill: tip = bill × (percentage / 100), and the total is the bill plus the tip. This calculator works out the gratuity and grand total and can split it among several people.
UK tipping norms
UK tipping is more modest and discretionary than in the US. In restaurants, around 10–12.5% is typical for good service — but many places already add a discretionary service charge of 12.5% to the bill, in which case an additional tip is not expected. Always check the bill first.
