Mileage Calculator US
Calculate your vehicle mileage (km per liter) from distance covered and fuel used.
How it works
A discount reduces the original price by a percentage. The saving is the price times the discount; the sale price is what remains.
Sale price = Price ร (1 โ discount%)Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate miles per gallon?
Divide the miles driven by the gallons of fuel used. 360 miles on 12 gallons is 30 mpg.
What is a good mpg?
It varies by vehicle type. Many efficient cars exceed 35 mpg, while larger trucks and SUVs are lower; hybrids and EVs are higher or measured differently.
How do I measure my real mpg accurately?
Fill up, record the odometer, drive a full tank, refill and note the gallons added, then divide miles by gallons over that tank.
What is mileage reimbursement?
A per-mile payment for business driving. The IRS sets an annual standard mileage rate used for tax deductions and many employer reimbursements.
Does the IRS rate change each year?
Yes. The standard mileage rate is updated annually, so always use the current yearโs published figure.
Why is my mpg lower than the rating?
Real-world driving โ city traffic, loads, weather and driving style โ usually returns lower mpg than the official test figure.
Calculating mileage and fuel economy
Mileage usually means fuel economy โ how far your vehicle travels per gallon of fuel. It is calculated as miles driven รท gallons used. This calculator works out your real mpg and can also estimate trip mileage and reimbursement.
Working out mpg
Fill the tank, note the odometer, drive, then refill and record the gallons added. If you drove 360 miles and added 12 gallons, your mileage is 360 รท 12 = 30 mpg. Doing this over a full tank gives a more reliable figure than a single short trip.
Mileage reimbursement
If you drive for work, many employers reimburse business miles at a set rate per mile, and the IRS publishes a standard mileage rate each year for tax purposes. Multiply your business miles by the applicable rate โ always check the current yearโs figure, as it changes annually.
Tracking mileage helps you monitor fuel efficiency over time, compare vehicles, budget for trips and keep accurate records for any work-related travel claims.
