How the age calculator works
This tool calculates the exact time between a birth date (or any start date) and a target date, breaking it down into years, months, and days. Rather than simply subtracting years, it counts complete calendar months and the leftover days, correctly handling months of different lengths and leap years so the result matches how we actually reckon age.
Worked example
Someone born on March 15, 1990, measured on June 28, 2026, is 36 years, 3 months, and 13 days old. The calculator counts 36 full years to March 15, 2026, then the additional months and days to the target date — not just the difference in calendar years.
Leap years and edge cases
Leap years add February 29 every four years (with century exceptions), and the calculator accounts for them automatically. It also handles tricky cases such as a birthday on the 31st in a month that has only 30 days, or someone born on February 29, by rolling to the correct boundary.
Common uses
